Diary - 0 weeks to go!

1 day to go!
Date: 09-05-03

Things were getting a bit manic in the house today - all the wedding crew wanted to help, but there was nothing for them to do, really. It was all a matter of us getting all the bits and bobs together ready to drop off at the right places.

The blokes headed out into town to pick up the suits in the morning, which gave the women time to faff - trying on their outfits (including Katherine for once!) and to do their nails. There were no problems with the suits - they all fitted and had the right bits. What else is there to say about hire suits?

After some munchies back at the house, a couple of Katherine's work friends popped over to drop off a card and a prezzie, which was nice of them. Then it was a matter of loading peoples' luggage into cars along with all the stuff that needed to go to the Orchard ready for tomorrow - table chaff, disposable cameras and the like.

Katherine and I went with my parents and had to carry a tier of the cake each (I was lumbered with the biggest!) - it was a scary journey as we balanced the things on our arms trying to soak up the lumps and bumps of the road. We got there - luckily with everything in one piece - and spoke to the events coordinator there. The room was partially setup, and it did look good. We handed over the cake (they're going to set it up tomorrow morning) and all the bits and pieces, sorted out a few last minute details and then headed off.

Once we'd dropped off peoples' stuff at the hotel, the wedding crew plus my parents and Katherine's dad headed over to the church for the rehersal. The florist had been and gone, so the flowers were set up already - they looked great! We took a few snaps of them with the digital camera as we probably won't notice them tomorrow!

The rehersal took around an hour and we basically went through everything (bar the hymns!) in the service - including saying our vows with the microphone in the right position so we knew what to expect. It was weird (saying the vows, not the microphone) and I think my mum did have a little weep in the background. I think the main problem we're going to have tomorrow is stopping Katherine from sprinting down the aisle to meet me, and then stopping us both sprinting out the church together! It's hard walking so slowly when you're so excited.

To cap the day off, we all went over to the hotel and had a nice meal with my family and some other friends. As the evening went on, more and more of the guests joined us, so it was great catching up with people we hadn't seen for a while. It all finished too quickly - Percy drove me back to the house an we sat up with a bottle of Stella each, sorting through the order of the day, who was being introduced and when and then watched an episode of Buffy. My last as an unmarried man. I think we got to bed around 1.30.

Apparently the girls weren't too long going to bed after us at the hotel - they stayed up in the bar for a while after the meal and then, with the excitement, opened a bottle of champagne and practiced handing back bouqets and lifting veils using whatever they could find in the room.

2 days to go!
Date: 08-05-03

All of the wedding crew arrived today, as well as my parents. One had arrived by the time Katherine and I had to pop out and run some erronds (like pay people and pick up Katherine's Canadian friends from the train station!) and the rest arrived whilst we were out. By the time we got back, my mum was finishing off the cake in the dining room, and the others were sat in a pub in a neighbouring village, keeping out of the way.

After a bit of a natter, we headed into Cambridge and took the Canadians out for a pizza. We left there early enough to drop the Canadians off at their hotel and get back to the house for last orders, but by the time we did get back, we weren't really in the mood for it. So we cracked open a few beers and wines in the house instead, and had a game of Trivial Persuit.

Last day
Date: 07-05-03

Had a few things to sort out today - nothing major, just things like typing up the lists of people for formal photos and a list of all those wanting to use the bus that we're laying on for the people staying at the same hotel as us.

But it was a bit of a weird day as it was our last day in work as unmarried people.

I popped to the pub (briefly) with my worky people and had a pint with them - they handed me a box with something heavy in it and a card, which was nice. Although the box was a bit of a nightmare to carry all the way up to Kings Cross. My arms still feel a bit dead.

Katherine had to leave work early to go and pick up her dress from the shop (yay!)...apparently it's a lot better than it was.

Dreams
Date: 06-05-03

Katherine told me she had a strange dream about the wedding last night - all about how they were really late getting ready at the hotel because she had to stay back and make a load of sandwiches for the reception. Something about it being only 30 minutes before the wedding and she hadn't had her makeup or hair done and wasn't even in her dress.

I think i've had one strange dream about the wedding so far....or not one that I've been able to remember.

Anyway, onto reality - I bought some foreign money for the honeymoon on the way into work (one more working day to go!) and fiddled with the seating plan sheets during the lunch hour.....surely there's something we've forgotten to do!

4 days to go. Blimey!

Paperwork
Date: 05-05-03

Time for a big sort out - the others left reasonable early this afternoon, which gave us the chance to sort out the huge pile of wedding paperwork that's been brewing in one of the bedrooms. We managed to get rid of quite a bit of it, and did some phoning around to confirm the hotel and cottage bookings for the honeymoon.

We managed to fit in a nice tandem ride (although it was v windy!) and Katherine went for a short run after that - I think we deserved the break!

Then we finished the evening off sorting out what formal group photos we want, wrapping some presents and decided on what times the wedding cars should pick us up from the hotel in the morning.

To be honest, there's not that much else that needs organising now. Everything major that needs sorting, has been, so it's just a matter of keeping things ticking over.
