Diary - 9 weeks to go!
Banished
Date: 08-03-03
Everyone who is involved in this wedding was around this weekend - the best man,
all the bridesmaids, my parents and Katherine's dad. A full house.
An early-ish start, so not much chance of a lie-in. The hairdresser turned up at 10
to do some trials on Katherine and the bridesmaids. The men were banished from the
living room while all this was going on, so we went and did some shopping. The girls
decided to keep their hair as the hairdresser had done it until the 4pm appointment
in the dress shop for fittings, so the men popped into town to do some erronds - get
Percy measured for his suit, speak to the jewelers and making my wedding ring bigger
etc etc.
Not a bad afternoon afterall - after some erronds, we popped into the pub for lunch,
and then decided to have a go at flying my new kite - Katherine bought it for me for
Christmas, but we haven't a chance to use it what with us being away so often, and
the weather being so pants. Pretty good stuff, though, and it only suffered a minor
injury even though it nose-dived into the ground quite a few times. The girls popped
into town, too, to have a look at some jewlery and speak to the florist. I wonder who
was having the most fun.
We went back to the house around 4 as we knew the girls wouldn't be around, and the
rugby was on. I gave up after 15 minutes of watching Wales being thrashed by Scotland.
The girls got back before the end, which was a welcome distraction. The men had to
shut themselves in the living room with the curtains drawn so the girls could park
out the front, and smuggle Katherine upstairs via the back door so that she could
"undo" her wedding hair without me seeing it.
Sounds like they had a successful day, though. The bridesmaids picked their dresses
up, and Katherine sorted out some other stuff, although it sounds like there's a bit
of a problem with the shoes again (as well as the fact that the dress still isn't
in!). We finished the day with a nice Italian meal in Royston.

Highs and lows

Sent some more invites this morning. That takes the sent total to 50, I think.
Only another...ooooo....20ish to go? Something like that. I can't wait until
they've all gone - it just takes so much time!
We had our first RSVP back this evening :) WooHoo! We thought these people
might've been the first as they only live three doors down from us.
Katherine had a bit of a disappointing day - she phoned the dress shop to see
if her dress was going to be in by this weekend (it should've come in a few weeks
ago), but there's still no sign of it. Apparently the woman on the other end of the
line was really apologetic and said that it should be in by the weekend after -
they've had some delay getting orders in from China or something. Don't ask. I
don't have a clue. It is a bit annoying, though, as my parents, the best man and
all the bridesmaids are coming down this weekend, and all the girls are getting
fittings done at the shop as well as having hair and makeup trials. They're not
going to be able to come over again when the dress comes in, so Katherine's going
to have to find someone else to make sure it looks all right. I did offer to help
her, but she just said "If only".
In an effort to sort something out about the table chaff, I popped into
Confetti on Tottenham Court Road.
Managed to pick up a selection of metallic confetti (stars, bells and the like) in
varying colours, as well as a catalogue. Should give us a few ideas of what to do with
the tables. I hope.
And finally.....the whole day was rounded off with some coffee, chocolate-chip cake
and chat about marriage preparation stuff with our.....what's the word? Counsellors?
No, that doesn't sound right. Helpers? I don't know. Anyway, we talked through stuff
with this married couple from our church. Only one more of these to go before the
wedding, and a few after we're married.

Strangely familiar

I can see our lives turning into a bit of a Groundhog day. Get up, do the usual
getting-ready-for-work stuff, post some invites, go to work, come home, have tea, write
some more invites and go to bed.
One nugget of advice we can hand down to people who are engaged, but in the early stages,
or people who are thinking of getting engaged - don't try and keep your "normal" social
life going as well as trying to plan a wedding. It doesn't work. You neither have the
energy nor the time to do both. We're learning the hard way and suffering for it at the
moment - lack of sleep, constantly tired, grumpy with each other etc etc. Don't do it!
Just lock yourselves in your houses for the last three months and just get it sorted!

Right then, let's do it!
Date: 04-03-03
Finally we had a chance to sit down and write a load of invites. After the obligatory
pancakes, though :)
Katherine was writing them the invites and address the envelopes (she has much more
legible writing than I), while I was signing them, stuffing all the things in the
envelopes, sealing them and slapping a stamp on it.
We managed to write about 30-odd, though, which was nice.

Just another manic Sunday (Woah ooo woah)
Date: 02-03-03
We saw that the rest of the RSVP cards have arrived when we got back form Hull. Great.
Now we can get on and get these invites sorted once and for all!
The Debenhams catalogue arrived, too, but that looks a bit disappointing - it just seems
to have all the stuff that we've already seen in the store. We decided to pop into the
store on our way to church this afternoon to find out where all the kitchen stuff is and
things like that. They couldn't really give us an answer, but there appears to be several mini-catalogues as well as the large one. It's all a bit confusing as they all seem to
contain the same stuff. Hmmmmm.....
We had our first marriage preparation seminar this evening. Quite a busy little affair
with 19 other people - some only a handful of weeks away from their wedding, some only
just engaged, and a couple who weren't even engaged yet who wanted to find out what
marriage was all about in the Christian sense. A good evening, though. Lots to think
about. All helpful stuff.
