Diary - 6 weeks to go!
Photographer
Date: 29-03-03
After all this nice weather we've been having this week, I thought we were going to be
able to show the photographer the Orchard in it's best light. No....it was
dreary, cloudy and cold. Ah well. It was still good to meet them, though - Anna, Brian
(who takes the "candid" shots) and Keith (her busniess partner who's going to be taking
our formal photos since Anna's heavily pregnant at the moment).
This was the fist time we'd met Keith, but he seems a nice bloke, and his portfolio is
great. The right kind of stuff for us. We talked about a few ideas of what we wanted on
the day before he had to go to another shoot. It's a bit weird to think that the next
time we see him will be the day of the wedding!
After Keith left, we just discussed things in a little more detail with Anna and Brian
and chose the type of album we'd like. We paid her the rest of the money and said that
we'd knock up a list of the types of formal photos we want and who's going to be in them.

The return of the rings
Date: 28-03-03
Our rings are back! WooHoo!
Katherine picked them up from the jewelers today. I tried my ring on (I wanted it increased
by ½ a size) and it seemed to fit ok. I think I've got odd shaped fingers - they seemd
to be cones with no distinctive knuckle to hold the ring on. For the ring to be *really*
comfortable, it's more than likely going to fall off as it effortlessly slips over the knuckle.
Katherine's happy now....she's got the engagement ring back, too. No adjustments needed, it
was just in for a check to see if the setting and band were ok. She wanted to leave it until
I got home before putting it on, though, so I could see how sparkly it was after a polish :)
I must admit, it was v sparkly.

Marriage preparation (3)
Date: 27-03-03
Tonight was the last marriage preparation session this side of the wedding. After some
v nice ginger cake and coffee, we chatted about arguments, conflicts and anger - a nice
way to finish the course off! I can't say we argue much, and if we do, it's normally as
a result of us being so tired, but we'd be a bit niave to expect there to be no arguements
when we're married. All helpful stuff, though.
Then we spent a bit of time chatting about our order of service - particularly the final
hymn! As it happened, they had a huge pile of order of services from weddings they'd been
to, so we picked up a few ideas from them. We might take the selection along to the music
director on Sunday and see what he thinks about them.

All change!
Date: 26-03-03
Well, ok, maybe not "All change!", but after meeting with the vicar tonight, we're thinking
of tweaking the Order of Service. We're thinking of squeezing in another reading (he suggested
a rather nice one as it happens. Slightly out of context, but it says the right thing) for
a start. The other tweak is to add another hymn. Hmmmm. Difficult, considering it took us
long enough to come up with the current hymns.
The thinking behind this tweak? Well, as it stands, the last two hymns aren't "traditional"
as such, although the tunes are quite easy to pick up. But this could mean that the
congregation won't be singing with, shall we say, gusto. It would be nice to finish on a more
popular hymn so that it gets everyone singing along and the service finishes on a "high".
But it's difficult chosing a more well-known hymn without opting for something cheesey or
one that a friend's had at their wedding.

Honeymoon? Check!
Date: 25-03-03
Finally got round to phoning up the car hire company for the honeymoon to find out how much
all the extras are. Y'know, things like adding a second driver, reducing the excesses etc etc.
Oh, and I needed to make sure that the booking actually existed! It's a bit odd that they
don't take credit card details from you as a sort of guarantee that you're going to pick
the car up when you say you are.
Well, apparently the booking is valid (WooHoo!), and the extras aren't *that* expensive.
Not that anything in this country appears to be cheap. Or so we've been told. So, that's
the honeymoon sorted! Yay! Another tick in the box.
Apparently the table chaff arrived at Katherine's work today, so she's going to bring that
home when she drives to work instead of cycling.

Table stuff
Date: 24-03-03
We've finally decided on the table chaff now, and the florist liked the vases and glass
bases we showed her yesterday, so that's pretty much all the table stuff sorted.
So I ordered the chaff from the web and wandered over to The Pier during my lunch break.
Let me tell you, 9 tables worth of glass vases and bases and a couple of other things weigh
an absolute ton! Of course, it was one of the hottest days of the year, too. Oh well, we've
got them now, and I don't think any were damaged on the way home after work (although there
were a few close calls with lamp posts and walls on the way to the station!)
Bit of an odd time, this evening. After sorting out dinner and faffing for a bit we
realised that we didn't have anything to do.. No wedding stuff to organise. We were lost
- we felt like we should have been doing stuff. How odd.

D'oh!
Date: 23-03-03
One of the reasons we came back from Cardiff yesterday (via Bridgewater to order the tandem
:) ) was so that we could hear our marriage banns being read out at our church in the morning
service. We sat there, grinning to each other as the normal church notices were read ½
way through the service. The anticipation grew as someone elses banns were read and then.....they
went straight into the prayers and the service moved on.
Er....what about us? Had they forgotten? We were quite gutted, to tell you the truth - we
could only hear the banns being read twice as it was, what with the stag and hen do's taking
place on the third time. This meant that we could only hear them once. I know it's nothing
major, but it would have been nice.
We spoke briefly to the music director after the service who was the person who booked the
banns in the diary - he told us our banns were being read in the 5pm service an was really
apologetic when we told him that we were expecting them to be read that morning. Oh well. No
harm done. Just a bit of a mix-up really. On another note (pun intended) we had a quick chat
about music for signing the register. He twinkled a few tunes on the piano which sounded quite
nice. Don't ask me what they were as I can't remember, but I think they were by Debussy.
Afterwards, we popped over to the shopping centre to see the florist about the
"vase" that we bought yesterday. She liked it, and the glass base, and she hasn't been
able to find any alternatives through her wholesale contacts, so she told us to go ahead
and buy them now! Another tick in the box.
We managed to squeeze in a fleeting visit to the evening service afterall. We spoke to a person
on the door who we know and told him the situation, so he pointed us towards some seats
at the back which we could make a quick and quiet getaway after the banns were read. We
sat there grinning again, and couldn't stop smiling when they were read out (by the
person who's marrying us, as it happens). The prayers for us straight after the banns
were really nice, too.
There....it all worked out in the end :)
