Diary - 5 weeks to go!
Stag do
Date: 05-04-03
What a day! (Obviously I'm writing this some time after the event). 10 of us plus a few people
who came and went throughout the day. Excellent stuff. I'll write up something at some point!

The hens leave the coop
Date: 04-04-03
The alarm went off at an unearthly hour so that all the hens could get up, get ready and go to
Stanstead. Bearing in mind, though, that we didn't go to bed until gone midnight after all their
"clucking" (as I call it) over bridesmaids dresses and such. Shattered.
They did leave on time, and I had a text message from Katherine saying that they'd got to
Stanstead in loads of time so they were settling down to a big breakfast to set themselves up for
the weekend.
My dad and brother arrived for the Stag do in the afternoon. Just a bit of a quiet one tonight,
though. We had some tea, watched a DVD, drank some beer and went to bed at a reasonable time.
I was woken up at 1.30am by the phone - Katherine managed to grab a sneaky phonecall to me :)
Sound like they're having a good time.

The hens arrive
Date: 03-04-03
Bit of a houseful tonight - all the hens (bar one from Reading who's going to meet them in
Bruges and Katherine's sister, who's being dropped off at our place tomorrow morning) turned
up from various parts of the country. We had lots of pizza, drank a bit of wine, chatted and
had a good time.
I faffed around a bit as the conversation turned to dresses and such. Obviously I wasn't allowed
in the room to see Penny trying on her bridesmaids dress. All I could hear was lots of laughter
and the odd comment about "falling out". Whatever that means :)
It was gone midnight before we all headed to bed - a really early start in the morning :(

Hymn #4
Date: 02-04-03
We popped over to StAG to see the music director this evening. We had a bit of a chat and
tried to work out which hymn would sound the best and be the most appropriate to finish on.
It had to be something that was popular (so that everyone could join in), but not too cheesy.
We whittled it down to two with the help of Richard, and then spent some time with him tinkling
on the keyboard to work out some music for him to play while we're signing the register. A
nice bit of Bach (Prelude & Fugue) was chosen.
Richard said that he was going to try and find a vocalist for the day, too, so that should help
with the less well-known hymns (the two in the middle). We're thinking of strategically placing
some rather vocal guests in the congregation to help, too :) He's going to try and get a guitarist
to help him along with the pianon and organ as well.
By the end of the day, Katherine and I had decided on the final hymn. It's a well-known tune and
it's fairly upbeat. We just need to type up the lyrics for the Order of Service now.

Banns #2
Date: 30-03-03
We managed to hear our banns again this morning - we knew they were definately being read out
in the morning service today. One of the other vicars read them out today, though, and they used
our full names, which was a bit weird :) I suppose they don't have to officially, as they just
used our Christian names and surnames last week (eventually!).
We managed to catch up with the music director at the end of the service, too, so we arranged a
meeting for this coming Wednesday night to speak about the fourth hymn and the signing of the
register music. Hopefully we can get this sorted once and for all so that we can get the Order
of Service wording off to the stationers.
We even received our first wedding present from the gift list from Katherine's Godmother and
husband :)
