Play things Date: 15-02-03 A vaguely relaxing morning, this morning - a little bit of a lie-in and a bit of faffing around the house. It's not often our Saturdays start off this way. The pace soon picked up though, as we headed into town to sort out the wedding gift list. We decided to set up a gift list at Debenhams a while back but they don't let you put anything on it until 3 months before. So, today was the day. We arrived, chatted to the woman in the wedding department and then we were off, wish-list in one hand and hand-held scanner in the other. It's quite a groovy system - you wander around and scan the barcode of anything that you'd like to add to the list, tap in the number of items required and that's it! Sounds easy, doesn't it? Well, it isn't. For a start, you feel a bit guilty about putting expensive things on the list - you're spending other peoples' money afterall. And then you get to items that you either don't have a clue about or you can't decide between the various types. Two things spring to mind: a duvet and pots and pans. In the end, we had to phone my mum about tog ratings, sizes and the differences between feather and down, and we decided to go for the anodised pots and pans. Including a 30 minute lunch break, we were there for around 3 hours sorting this list out. 3 hours! We were knackered. While we were supping some well-earned pints on our way back to the train, we realised that one item was missing - a set of kitchen knives. A bit annoying as it means we're going to have to go back again soon. We're going to have to go back anyway, to update it when we check out all the stuff in their catalogue - the stores don't stock everything they have. Especially the one in Cambridge. We bought a cake magazine for inspriration and for the journey back on the train. It's given us a couple of ideas, but we're pretty much still clueless. I hope my mum is on the ball!
