Diary - 10 weeks to go!
Firsts
Date: 01-03-03
Our first wedding of the year! In fact, the groom was the person who
introduced Katherine and I to each other - he was friends with her
through the bellringing, and I was his lab-partner in the second year
of uni. But Paul and Fiona beat us to it! And they were going out for
less time! We beat them to the engagement, though. Only by a day, but
we got there first :)
Anyway...the wedding. It's weird going to weddings now that we know
we've got one of our own approaching. You're contsantly checking things
out - the dress, the flowers, the atmosphere, hymns, readings,
timing...the list goes on. You can get quite distacted from the fact
that two people you know are making a commitment to each other - the
most important part of it all.
The whole thing went pretty smoothly as far as we could tell. The service
was nice, and the castle hotel thing (in South Cave, near Hull) was an
amazing setting for the reception. She looked great, he looked nervous,
the was laughter, tears, drinking and dancing. What more could you ask for?
We left the bride, groom, best man and friends in the hotel bar around 1am -
we couldn't keep up the pace. I don't know how they managed - the groom had
been up since 5 because he couldn't sleep!
A good time was had by all. Oh, and the timing of it all was perfect which
is good as it was at the same time that we're having ours.

And they're off!
Date: 28-02-03
Popped into the post office on the way to work this morning to post some invitations.
Our first lot. Only the international ones at the moment. If we've got enough time
after the marriage preparation seminar at out church on Sunday evening, we might
write up a few more. We'll have to wait and see. We've got to get them out soon, though,
as the RSVP deadline in 5th April!
Phoned up the stationers about the mix-up with the quantities. They were really
apologetic, and they're going to get some replacements sent in the post to us
free of charge as soon as they can.

Shambles
Date: 27-02-03
Had a phonecall today.
"Hello, this is [such and such] from Cambridge police station]..."
"Oh....er....hello" (gulp)
"We're ringing about the letter regarding the wedding in May"
"Oh! Right!" *phew*
Turns out everything's fine, although the cars won't be able to park in the taxi
rank for the whole thing, so they'll have to go off for a wander for a
while. The police were just ringing to confirm that they received the letter and to
find out some more details about the cars (contact details and such). It's out of
my hands now.
Tonight was going to be a night where we were going to get loads done. Here's a
list of what we had planned:
- Katherine to make some of the information booklets
- Katherine to bring box of stationary home
- Cook some food
- Write as many invitations as we can (at least the ones for the international
guests)
- Pack for the weekend (going to a friend's wedding near Hull)
....as well as other minor stuff.
So what happened? One word for it - trains. They were an absolute shambles tonight.
I won't bore you with the details, but I was over an hour late getting home (I get
home late enough as it is!). Katherine got back around the same time as me and we
were both grumpy - me about the trains and her with the information booklets.
Then, as we open the box from the stationers and check things (the invitations are
great!) we discover that there's been a bit of a mix-up with the order. It's sortable,
but it's a bit annoying if you're already in a bad mood.
So we had tea late, and started writing the invitations later than we planned to.
In the end, we only had enough time to write 10 of them (7 international ones), put
all the stuff in the evelopes and address them. 12:45am we went to bed, which is a bit
of a nightmare when the alarm's set for 6am so we can get up and pack for the weekend.
We just don't seem to have enough time to organise this wedding!

Invitation stuff
Date: 26-02-03
The invitations will be with us soon, so today was the start of getting the other
stuff to go along with the invitations sorted. I printed out a load of information
booklet sheets, and we both spent some time writing the information on the gift lift
cards. We should get the invitations from the stationary people tomorrow, so I think
tomorrow night will be spent writing a handful of those and stuffing all the stuff in
the envelopes. At least the envelopes are gummed and the stamps are the sticky ones,
otherwise we'd have a horrible glue-y taste in our mouths for days.
We also spent some time tweaking the guest list again. ½ hour of playing
around with it, and we've not managed to reduce it any further! We ended up deleting
some people from it, but upgrading others. Looks like we're stuck with the numbers
we've got, even if there are around 10 people more than we originally budgeted for.
Hey ho!
Katherine had a bit of a fright, though. She decided to have a go at writing and
signing her married name. I've never seen someone throw down a pen with such a scared
look on their face before! It's hard to appreciate how strange it is to change your
surname. A surname that Katherine has used for 27 years.
Got round to sending the letter to the police about the wedding cars and taxi ranks
today, too.

999
Date: 25-02-03
I wrote a letter to the police today. I finally got round to phoning the police
station up about parking the wedding cars in the taxi rank
on the day while the service is going on. They told me I had to write to a particular
Sergaent there detailing it all for them. Fingers crossed we've been given the right
information by the people at our church (ie we can park them there!) otherwise
they're going to have to drive them around for an hour or so!
The samples from the stationary people did arrive - seconds before I had to shoot
out the door to catch my train. They look brilliant! WooHoo!We're both pleased
with them.
So, a quick call to them in the afternoon to hand over my credit card details and
we're away. They're going to try and get them out to the courier by today so that
it reaches Katherine's work by tomorrow, but they'll definately be there by Thursday.
Which is fine as Katherine isn't driving until Thursday so she wouldn't really be
able to bring them home on her bike.

Florist
Date: 24-02-03
Katherine met up with the florist today. They walked around the church and talked
through a few ideas. A couple of pedestals, ribbons, posies...that sort of stuff.
All fairly subtle. The florist is going to see if she can sort out some vases for
the table centres at the recpetion for us, too.
The stationary people phoned to say that the invites and RSVPcards are ready! Blimey!
Things are really starting to kick off now! We should get two samples and the invoice
(gulp) in the post tomorrow.

Email us. Go on! You
know you want to.
