Diary - 1 week to go!
Alterations #2
Date: 03-05-03
Katherine and the bridesmaids drove over to St. Ives this morning to take the dress back to
the alteration shop for the second lot of alterations. Me and Percy hung around the house and
tidied up a few things - there wasn't much weddingy stuff we could do really as I'd already
folded and glued all the menu cards this morning.
The girls got back in time for a pub lunch, so we trotted over to the pub in the neighbouring
village and had some nice food and beer. The rest of the afternoon and evening was spent with
friends in Cambridge - a nice distraction from the fact that it's only 7 days to go!

What? Still no dress?
Date: 02-05-03
The dress arrived at the dress shop today (Yay!), but it still doesn't fit! Still a little
tight in some areas (Katherine can't reaelly be specific unfortunately). We've got all the
wedding crew over for the weekend, and we had quite a bit planned. Now Katherine's got fit in
another trip to the St Ives alteration place for another set of measurements. The dress
will allegedly be ready for Wednesday. Cutting it fine (no pun intended)? Just a bit.
You'd think that 6 months would be plenty of time to organise a wedding dress. Apparently not.
More stationary fiddling today - correcting some mistakes in the menu cards and seat allocation
thing for the Orchard. Managed to knock up a table plan for them to display so people can find
their table, too.
Doubt much organising will get done this weekend, although I think we'll be glad of the rest!

Dress? What dress?
Date: 01-05-03
This is turning into a bit of an edge-of-your-seat drama now. Katherine phoned the dress shop to
see when she could come in and try the dress on - today was the day that the alteration place
told her the dress would be back at the dress shop. It turns out the dress shop weren't expecting
the dress in, so assumed that it would be a the "garage" (whatever that is) if the alteration
shop delivered it today. They said they'd check to see if it was there.
It wasn't at the "garage", so they phoned the alteration shop who said that they hadn't even
finished it yet! Grrrr! It should be in tomorrow, so Katherine can pop over then. I just hope
that everythings ok with it as, to be honest, 8 days, as it currently stands, isn't much
time to sort out a replacement.
Other than that, the day has been quite productive - we've typed up the seating plan (allocating
the spaces on the tables to give to the Orchard), printed off the menu cards and inserts for the
tables, written a letter for the bus hire company and paid (ok, sent the cheque to) the florist.
We had an invoice emailed to us from the Orchard, too, so we'd better sort out the prepayment
money sometime over the weekend.

Pioneering stationary
Date: 30-04-03
Had a phonecall from the stationers this afternoon saying that the Order of Services are ready to
dispatch! Blimey! We only approved the last round of changes on Monday. They're sending them by
courier, so they should reach Katherine's work by Friday. WooHoo!
The girl on the other end of the line said they looked "quite cute" as they'd "never done them
that size before". Pioneers, us :)
Finished off the table menu cards today - just need to check with Katherine that they're ok and
then I can print off a load of those. I think that's all the table stuff sorted now!

On the buses
Date: 29-04-03
Since the hotel we've invited a load of family and friends to stay with us before and after the
wedding is a little way out of Cambridge, we thought it only fair to arrage a bus to take them to
the church, reception and back to the hotel. The bus company we contacted the week before last is
run by someone we vaguely know through ringing. They phoned back on Saturday to say that they
weren't available on the 10th, which is a bit of a shame and it meant us having to find another
bus company
Katherine did some phoning around on Monday and came back with one quote from another company which
was a bit more than we expected. We racked our brains to work out a pricing scheme for the passengers (hey, we can't pay for everything!), but I can't say we were entirely happy with in the cost.
Katherine heard back from another company today, though, who gave us a much more reasonable price,
and we'd have extra spaces so we could always top it up with other people and make it cheaper for
everyone :) All we need to do now is pay in advance and write them a letter confirming the booking.
I think we're a bit happier about the transport now.
I spent some time fiddling around with menu cards for the tables (to remind people what they've
chosen!), which I think is the last thing to do for the Orchard now. Or one of the few remaining things!

Speeches and a day of fiddling
Date: 28-04-03
I think I finally managed to finish tweaking my speech for the day. I spent a few train journeys
last week jotting down some ideas and sound-bites, but everytime I've looked at it since, I've
thought the wording not quite appropriate or, well, rubbish. I had an email from Percy today saying
that he's nearly started writing his speech three times. Not bad.
Finally got the Order of Service tweaked, too - the vicar noticed a missing ' " ' yesterday, so I
let the stationers know, and they're going ahead with the printing. WooHoo!
We managed to finish off the last lot of placename this evening, just before some friends popped
round to say hello (in fact, these are the friends whose wedding we went to on the 15th March). I
had to pop out for 10 minutes or so as I'd forgotten to go round to the vicar for our village to
pick up the banns certificate (D'oh!) earlier in the evening.
12 days to go, and we hope that the weather picks up a bit! It's scarey looking at the "long term"
forcasts at the moment - some say that it's going to be raining, some that it's just going to be
overcast and warm. Er....how about a little sun, maybe? Please?

Flowers and church
Date: 27-04-03
Popped over to see the florist in the morning to hand over the vases for the table centres, and to
show her my mum's handbag (for the corsage). We chatted for a bit, and finalised details on the size
of the bouquets, pedestals and all the extras. After having a wander around the church after the
evening service, we think we might get rid of a few the things.
Then we met up with the vicar who's marrying us. We had a good chat about things, discussed the
order of service and various logistal things (most of which will be sorted on the rehersal night)
and talked about what marriage all means to us so he's got something personal to talk about in his
address.
Oh yeah, and we've asked someone to say grace for us at the recpetion before we eat. He seemed more
than happy to do it for us.

Email us. Go on! You
know you want to.
